Antes de começar este belíssimo post, quero agradecer ao grande JT pelo facto de me ter pegado a gripe. Não, não é essa que vocês estão a pensar, mas sim a gripe do "já me puseste a febre da escrita, especialmente no blog, meu sacana!". Portanto, um bem haja para o meu grande amigo.

Enfim, um curso falhado, muitas negas do sexo oposto e uma acidente de carro à saída da ponte 25 de Abril depois, cá estamos nós, saudáveis que nem touro sob o efeito de um xanax. Mas deixemos esta conversa de engate para mais logo, 05h02 é uma boa hora? Muito bem. Continuando.


Inglourious Basterds - Filme já saiu à meses mas infelizmente só o vi hoje. O cinema está caro e eu não ando a roubar carteiras no metro. Ainda...
Filme de Quentin Tarantino nunca desilude e este não é excepção. Como seria de esperar de um filme deste realizador/argumentista, a história é complexa e violenta, mas simplificando "a coisa", basta dizer que é sobre um grupo de soldados judeus em território francês, ocupado pela Alemanha, cuja missão é matar nazis, este é o motor do filme. O grupo, "The Basterds", é liderado por um tal de Brad Pitt com sotaque sulista. Ele e mais um punhado de homens muito simpáticos escalpam todo o "desgraçado" nazi que lhes apareça pela frente. Em contrapartida, do outro lado da guerra temos um coronel germânico que caça todo o judeu que escapa às garras da Gestapo. Só amor...

Ok, tendo em conta o repertório do Quentin, este filme é ligeiramente diferente dos outros no sentido de ter menos acção, ser mais parado, não deixando de ter as cenas de brutalidade, violência e sangue por todo o lado. É certamente o filme mais internacional de todos. Tem actores espanhóis, alemães, americanos, ingleses, austríacos, franceses e estou certo que deve haver um português pelo meio. Tem de haver! Tanto estamos numa conversa em francês como de repente mudam o idioma para alemão e depois para inglês... enfim, uma salganhada de línguas e que torna este filme tão especial, neste aspecto há que tirar o chapéu a Christopher Waltz, que fala francês, inglês, alemão e italiano neste filme, tudo com a maior natureza do mundo. Um verdadeiro actor.

Cenas invejáveis, diálogos brilhantes, actores de alto calibre... e é do Quentin. Vejam.

Clint Overdrive

Having recently seen two directed (one acted) Clint Eastwood films, I decided to review them in the same post. Let's begin with:

"Changeling"

A true story about the struggle of a woman who claims that the boy the police found is not her long lost son.

Angelina Jolie delivers one of the best female performances of her career playing a role for some time now: the role of a mother, and I think that some of that "motherness" from real life contributed to this iconic role.
The beautiful cinematography and costume design teleport us to the 20's and 30's, with an amazing cast, Changeling delivers an emotional film, not for the faint of heart.

"Gran Torino"

Clint Eatwood directs and stars in a drama where he plays a Korean War vet that befriends with a family of Hmong people, and comes to love them more than his own family.

Now, we all know that Clint has 79 years old (well you should!), but that does not stop him from making some of the finest motion pictures in the business and Gran Torino is the proof.
Eastwood delivers an amazing performance as an old man that takes two Hmong teenagers under his wing and protects them from the violent neigbourhood gang. I all begins with Thao trying to steal Clint's most prized possession: his 1972 Gran Torino.

A classic Clint Eastewood film, it should have been nominated to a couple of oscars, unfortunatly the Academy things differently.

A story of poverty, violence an love

Director Danny Boyle ("Trainspotting", "Sunshine", "28 Days Later") commands a vast team of unknown actors into international stardom in this amazing story of love, violence and poverty. The story occurs in India, as we know, one the poorest countries in the world, so what we watch in the film is kind of a "City of God" and "Rocky" mixed up as we see two young brothers that fight to get out the slum they live in. I guess the great achievement in the film is how the story is told and how that story is connected to the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire".

The main character of the plot is Jamal Malik who as a young boy had to learn how to survive in the slums of Mumbai. During his childhood, he meets Latika, a friendship that tunrs into love, except for the fact that they have gone in their separate ways. In a attempt to find her, he enters the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" hoping that she is watching.
A true masterpiece, Slumdog Millionaire is another great film from Danny Boyle and a love story that overcomes poverty.

Do you know Chris Nolan?

With the success of "The Dark Knight", Christopher Nolan has become one of the most respected directors in the world. But his talent didn't just fall from heaven, his talented work has began with one short movie called "Doodlebug" and directorial debut of a feature length film was "Following". It tells the story of a young writer who follows stranger for material when a thief tekes him under his wing.

His next film would earn him as Oscar nomination for "Best writing, screenplay written directly for the screen" and of course international stardom as a talented director. "Memento" is his great masterpiece, winning important awards being nicknamed the best film of 2000. his next film "Insomnia" could be considered the "less good" from his career, but the movie stands for itself, showing us a more serious side of Robin Williams and a great performance by Al Pacino.

The fourth Nolan movie was "Batman Begins". The movie would be the first comic based movie that was actually believable and based on reality and not fantasy, witch contributed to the success of the movie and its sequel, but we'll get to that later. For the second time a Nolan-directed movie would become the best film of the year, this time it was 2005.

In 2006, the magic picture, "The Prestige" would make its way into the theaters. At this time, great story telling, amazing soundtracks and fantastic acting performances are a trademark brought to you by Christopher Nolan.

His latest film, "The Dark Knight" is the second highest earning movie in history. All the Nolan trademarks are there, and combined with exceptional performances from Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart, it truly deserves all the compliments it could get.

Chris Nolan is, in my honest opinion, the most talented and visionary director today. His vision and capacity for storytelling make him a remarkable director.
